As much as I love to splurge, let’s be realistic, the economy isn’t exactly thriving. I count on a few mid priced designers to fuel my love for shoes during frugal times, one of which is Donald Pliner. His designs are very on trend and well made without making me racked with guilt that I spent tons of money on “another pair of shoes”.

Ankle boot/sandals hybrids are huge right now, and a great thing about this style shoe is it can be worn year round. These Marvel sandals by Donald Pliner are brown leather with side cut outs and an open toe. They zip up at the back ankle and have a 3.75 inch heel and a .5 inch platform. $295 Available here.

Donald Pliner Bataia Wedge Ankle Boots

It’s the sum of the parts that make this a great ankle boot. I love the curved wedge and how the cut out details are an extension of the cut outs on the upper. I love that the shaft goes higher than the ankle, giving it a more “boot” feel, despite the very open, almost sandal-like quality of the upper due to the extensive cut out details and the open toe. They’re the perfect end-of-summer transition shoe, the style hints at Fall, but the airy design will keep feet cool. Pair with tights for a great look through the Winter.

Thick straps of black leather with a shiny patent leather platform and an architectural wedge, these designer shoes can go from casual day wear to evening with ease. They have a zip closure at the back ankle, a leather sole and in sole. The heel measures 4.5 inches with a .5 inch platform. $315 Available here.
