There’s nothing subtle about Versace, whether it’s Donatello’s use of bright neon colors, her seriously skimpy ready-to-wear, or towering platform heels like these sandals from the Spring 2012 collection. Sometimes her designs can border on gawdy, but this season she hit the right tone with an innovative and flattering collection. That includes the shoes, however it’s going to be a bit tricky to actually wear them without breaking an ankle. The Versace Spring 2012 shoes have heels that start at 7 inches. That’s right, 7 inches.

I don’t know about you, but I have problems wearing a 5.5 inch heel, so 7 inches is damn near impossible. It’s a shame too, because these sandals are fantastic. The platform has a layered cut out, so it almost looks like the foot is hovering above the heel and platform. These sandals obviously aren’t made for walking, but I could manage getting out at the valet, walking (carefully) to a table where I will sit sideways to show off my fabulous shoes, drinking lightly so as not to have to teeter to the restroom, then using my husband as a crutch to walk back to the valet.
